About

Webex brings persistent team messaging, shared files, video meetings and calling into one Cisco collaboration app. It suits distributed teams and organizations using Webex services, with spaces for ongoing conversations and meeting controls for presenting, participants and audio/video. Calling, recordings, AI features and integrations depend on the organization's service plan and administrator settings; installing the client does not activate every enterprise service.

Installation and Mac requirements

Download the Mac build matching Apple Silicon or Intel, open the official DMG and move the app to Applications. Webex automatically checks for updates; organization update policies may control timing. The current official system requirements specify macOS 13 or later on a supported Mac. Mac reactions and virtual/blurred backgrounds have additional CPU requirements: the official table lists qualifying Intel generations/core counts and Apple processors with four or more cores; dedicated graphics require at least 2 GB VRAM for virtual backgrounds. Check the exact feature table for older Intel models rather than treating all compatible Macs as equally capable. The checked Mac section does not give a numeric general RAM minimum; Windows/Android RAM values must not be applied to Mac.

The official Apple Silicon download endpoint currently reports 217,287,477 bytes, Last-Modified September 8, 2026. It is a mutable no_check URL; the installed app's exact 46.9.0.35800 identity has not been independently established from this DMG, so the size is explicitly the current endpoint's compressed download, not a checksum-pinned exact-build claim. Meetings, recordings and caches need additional disk space. A working microphone/headset and camera are needed for those media functions; stable network connectivity matters more than installer size.

Accounts, fees and services

Webex is proprietary Cisco software. Free services and paid meeting/calling/enterprise plans have different limits and entitlements. Guests can join meetings where the host's policy permits it; persistent messaging and organization services use a Webex identity and may require SSO. Phone services and meeting hosting rights depend on the configured plan, not just the app. Consult current pricing and your administrator for recording, AI, storage and calling availability. Some organizations restrict external participants or file sharing.

Permissions and network

Allow microphone and camera only when using audio/video; macOS screen-recording permission is needed for sharing the screen. Notifications, contacts and integrations are optional or organization dependent. Do not grant broad file/device access simply to join a meeting. Firewall/proxy/VPN policies can affect media and login; use Cisco's service network requirements rather than assuming every meeting works on any restricted connection. The app relies on online Webex services for collaboration; locally cached material is not an offline meeting service.

Privacy and practical risks

Meeting audio/video, shared files, messages, identity and usage data are processed through configured Cisco/organization services, with retention and access influenced by administrator policies. Cisco's privacy statement describes account, service and diagnostic information; this listing makes no universal no-telemetry or end-to-end-encryption claim. Encryption capabilities depend on meeting mode and configuration. Check the organizer's recording/transcription notices and the organization's retention rules before discussing sensitive information.

Share the intended application/window instead of the whole desktop when possible; close private notifications and documents first. Verify meeting invitations and identity prompts, and avoid exposing credentials in chat or screen share. Recordings, transcripts and AI summaries may omit context or contain errors, so review them before using them as decisions or records. Keep the app updated and distinguish the Webex App from legacy Webex Meetings, VDI plugins and Webex for Government clients with different support rules.
