About

Todoist helps individuals and teams capture tasks, organize projects and track work across supported devices. The Mac desktop app provides the account-connected Todoist experience with desktop workflows such as Quick Add and links. It suits people who want a shared task system rather than keeping separate lists on each device.

Tasks and projects

Create tasks and subtasks, set dates and recurring schedules, organize projects and labels, and collaborate in authorized shared projects. Views and scheduling tools depend on the selected plan. The publisher’s current notes include durations without a scheduled date, board subtasks and improvements to desktop link handling. Natural-language entry and AI features should be reviewed before saving important dates, assignees or commitments.

A shared task can expose comments, attachments and project context to collaborators. Confirm the project and sharing settings before entering private material. Dates, deadlines, reminder times and durations are different concepts; verify time zones and recurrence when relying on a schedule. Mobile widgets, Siri features or Android urgent alarms are not automatically Mac desktop capabilities.

Installation and Mac requirements

The official Todoist-darwin-9.31.0-arm64-latest.dmg is 118,399,869 bytes. Read-only inspection confirms version 9.31.0, build 12380, a macOS 12.0 bundle minimum and an arm64 executable. This selected asset is for Apple-silicon Macs, not a Universal Intel package. The publisher Mac App Store listing also states macOS 12; select a compatible architecture and distribution for your Mac.

Download the official Mac app and follow its installation workflow, or use brew install --cask todoist-app. No additional formula dependency is declared. The packaged desktop client does not require installing a developer Node toolchain. Available desktop and web features can change as the service evolves independently of the wrapper version.

Accounts, network and permissions

A Todoist account is needed for the service and cross-device synchronization. Network access supports authentication, synchronization, collaboration, updates and enabled AI or integration features. Previously loaded tasks and queued local edits are distinct from a fully downloaded cloud backup. Verify synchronization before changing devices or deleting local data.

Notifications need permission when enabled. File attachment or export workflows need access to selected files, and voice capture needs microphone permission if used. Optional integrations have their own credentials and scopes. Installing a task app is not a reason to grant every macOS privacy permission. Review calendar connections and shared project access separately from basic account sign-in.

Plans and license

Todoist is proprietary software and an account-based service from Todoist Inc. under its terms and privacy policy. It has free and paid plans; reminders, scheduling, history, limits and team capabilities can depend on current plan conditions. A desktop download does not grant every Pro or Business feature, and older Pro Legacy terms can differ from current offerings. Check the selected plan before depending on a feature instead of assuming a promotional screenshot establishes entitlement.

Data, automation and reliability

Tasks, attachments, comments and collaborator identities can contain sensitive information stored or synchronized with the service. Review the privacy and organization policies before entering confidential material. Avoid including passwords or private keys in tasks, screenshots or exported CSV files. Integrations and automation can change tasks or send information elsewhere; review the scope and destination before enabling them.

Synchronization, offline conflicts, deletion and account changes can affect availability. Maintain an appropriate backup or export strategy for important projects; cloud sync is not an independent recovery policy. Check reminders and generated schedules instead of treating the app as a guaranteed alarm for critical duties. CSV imports and plan restrictions can affect fields, so inspect imported dates, deadlines and durations.

Release mapping

The official dated changelog explicitly lists Desktop 9.31.0,9.30.0 and 9.29.1 at publication. The associated notes here retain only applicable shared Web/macOS/Windows/Linux changes and exclude neighboring mobile-only entries. The dated version list does not prove every change was implemented in native Mac wrapper code; some belong to the shared service interface.
