About

Swift Quit changes the usual macOS behavior in which an app can keep running after its last window closes. It can automatically quit apps when their last window closes, apply the behavior to a selected list, and exclude apps that should keep running. It suits users who prefer closing a window to end the application's process and want this behavior configured per app.

Controls and behavior

Configure which applications are affected, exclusions and optional Launch on Login. Version 1.5 adds the ability to hide the menu-bar item, changes the settings shortcut/label and fixes the login-startup option. This utility is not a general memory cleaner or a promise that every app quits safely. The official README warns that users have reported unwanted window closing and other problems.

Installation and requirements

Download the official 1.5 ZIP, unzip it and move Swift Quit.app to Applications, or use brew install --cask swift-quit. The exact official release ZIP is 1,078,058 bytes, confirmed by HEAD and actual downloaded archive size. Read-only inspection of that archive confirms CFBundleShortVersionString 1.5, LSMinimumSystemVersion 11.0 and an x86_64/arm64 executable. It therefore targets macOS 11 or later on Intel and Apple Silicon. The checked official sources do not state a numeric minimum RAM. No external runtime or development toolchain is identified as a packaged-app prerequisite.

The README describes using Finder's Open action on first launch and authorizing the app in Accessibility. Follow current macOS security prompts and verify that the archive came from the official release. Do not disable system security globally to install it.

Accessibility and safety

Accessibility permission lets Swift Quit observe/control applications for its window-closing behavior. Grant it only after reviewing this broad capability. The documented upgrade procedure removes the old Accessibility entry and authorizes the new app again. Optional login startup keeps the utility active across sessions; disable it when you no longer want automatic quitting.

Test with disposable documents before applying it widely. Closing a last window may also end downloads, background work or unsaved workflows in the affected application. Exclude apps that need to keep running and save work first. An application's own save prompts and window behavior may differ; the developer explicitly warns that unwanted closing can occur. The checked sources do not establish Screen Recording or Full Disk Access as routine prerequisites.

License, accounts and privacy

The official repository contains the GNU GPL version 3 license. No paid activation or cloud account is described for the utility. Normal local window-management behavior does not require a remote service; obtaining releases requires network access. The checked README and release notes do not document telemetry collection or a separate privacy policy, so absence of such documentation must not be represented as an independently verified no-telemetry guarantee. Accessibility access itself is sensitive even when behavior is local.

Only version 1.5 is present in the fixed catalog's version history. Its official release notes were verified; no additional catalog versions are invented to make three. The publisher website did not return usable page content during this review, and a publicly accessible official app screenshot remains a media gap.
