About

Sublime Text is a desktop editor for source code, markup and plain text, aimed at developers and people working with many files or large editing tasks. It is separate from Sublime Merge, the vendor’s Git client.

Features

  • Edit multiple selections, use split views and navigate files/symbols with Goto Anything.
  • Work with syntax highlighting, completions, snippets and customizable key bindings.
  • Search files and projects, view Git status and inline differences where supported.
  • Configure build systems and command-line workflows for your chosen development tools.
  • Extend the editor with packages and its Python plugin API; customize themes and settings.

Installation and requirements

Install brew install --cask sublime-text, or download the official Mac ZIP and move Sublime Text into Applications. Open files or a project folder and configure your editor preferences. Compilers, language servers and other development tools used by packages/build systems are separate dependencies; installing the editor does not install every language toolchain.

Current builds require macOS10.13 or later. Sublime Text4 supports native Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. Windows builds now require Windows10 or later. Linux downloads include x64 and ARM64 formats; the vendor updater specifies glibc2.17 as the minimum platform baseline, not a guarantee for every distribution. No official iOS/Android edition is established. A universal minimum RAM or installed-storage requirement was not confirmed in the cited documentation.

The recorded Homebrew cask conflicts with sublime-text@dev and does not declare additional formula dependencies. Plugins may have their own requirements. Build4213 upgraded the plugin host to Python3.14 and disabled Python3.3 by default; the changelog documents a compatibility setting for older plugins, with3.3 scheduled for future removal. This embedded plugin runtime is distinct from an external Python installation for your projects.

Accounts, pricing and license

The editor may be downloaded and evaluated without charge, with no currently enforced evaluation time limit, but continued use requires buying a license. It is proprietary Sublime HQ software, rather than a free/open-source editor. Personal licenses are per user and may cover that user’s computers; business licensing has separate terms. Purchase/update eligibility and current prices are governed by the vendor’s sales pages. Normal local editing does not require a cloud subscription; purchasing a license and online package/download/update operations have separate connectivity requirements. Third-party packages retain their own licenses.
