About

Stirling PDF is a PDF editing platform with a personal desktop client, a browser interface and a self-hosted server option. The macOS Homebrew cask installs the Stirling PDF desktop application from the official universal DMG.

Document tools

The official project provides more than 50 tools for editing, merging, splitting, signing, redacting, converting, recognizing text with OCR and compressing PDFs. Its text editor supports direct table editing and editing OCR-processed scanned PDFs. Attachment tools can add, rename, extract or delete embedded files. These capabilities are part of a broader document workspace rather than a single-purpose converter.

Automation and deployment

No-code pipelines and REST APIs support repeated processing and integration with other systems. The project can run on your own server with a private API, allowing local workflows without sending documents to external processing services. Enterprise offerings add SSO, auditing and deployment options; availability depends on the chosen plan and configuration. The interface supports more than 40 languages.

Version-specific caveats

Version 3.1.0 introduces Stirling Sign with a redesigned group-signing experience and an opt-in beta Stirling Office Convert engine. The official release says the new conversion engine is coming to native desktop later, so it should not be assumed available in the macOS application. The platform is open-core; consult the repository license and plan documentation for your intended deployment.
