SoundCraft
ArtCraft · Open-source Rust digital audio workstation for multitrack recording, editing, MIDI and mixing, with scriptable commands.
About
SoundCraft is ArtCraft's open-source digital audio workstation, built in Rust and inspired by the Pro Tools editing and mixing workflow. It separates an Edit window for arranging audio and MIDI from a Mix window with inserts, sends, buses, auxiliary inputs and master faders. It is pre-alpha: useful for exploration, but not a promise of production reliability or complete Pro Tools compatibility.
Features
- Multitrack editing, fades, crossfades, playlists and comping; volume, pan and plugin automation.
- Piano-roll MIDI editing, built-in synths, quantization and Standard MIDI File import/export.
- Recording with input monitoring, punch-in, loop takes and autosave recovery; bounce mixes or stems to WAV, AIFF or FLAC.
- Built-in EQ, dynamics, reverb and other processors. The current README also documents CLAP, VST3 and Audio Units support.
- CLI, JSON control channel and MCP integration for scripts and agents. The CLI is available as a separate upstream download; installing the GUI cask does not establish that it is on PATH.
Install and start on macOS
With Homebrew installed:
brew install --cask soundcraft
open -a SoundCraft
Alternatively, download the signed, notarized universal DMG from the official releases, open it and install SoundCraft.app in Applications. The universal build supports Apple silicon and Intel. Start with the demo song or import audio; Space plays/stops and ⌘= switches Mix/Edit. Setup › Keyboard Shortcuts lists the bindings.
Requirements and source setup
The Homebrew cask specifies no extra dependency or minimum macOS version; upstream does not publish a precise RAM/CPU minimum in the README. Source builds require Git and a recent stable Rust toolchain:
git clone https://github.com/storytold/soundcraft
cd soundcraft
cargo run --release -p soundcraft -- --demo
On Linux, install ALSA development headers: libasound2-dev on Debian/Ubuntu or alsa-lib-devel on Fedora. Other official builds cover Windows, Linux, FreeBSD and WebAssembly. Feature descriptions here follow the current README, not a claim that each feature was introduced in 0.3.0.
