SMARTReporter Free
CoreCode · A macOS utility that checks drive S.M.A.R.T. status and can alert you to some potential hardware failures.
About
SMARTReporter Free is a macOS application that periodically checks supported drives’ S.M.A.R.T. status, which can provide an early indication of some hardware problems.
- Reports potential failures through alert boxes, on-screen notifications, or email.
- Shows drive status with an icon that changes from green to red when a problem is detected; the icon can optionally appear in the menu bar.
- Also checks for dangerous I/O errors, software R.A.I.D. degradation, and available space on the boot disk.
Install with brew install --cask smartreporter-free. The application requires macOS 10.14 Mojave or later. Its drive checks support internal disks; some external disks may work with additional software, and drives without S.M.A.R.T. support cannot use the S.M.A.R.T. check.
Alerts are indicators, not guarantees: they may not catch every disk problem and do not establish that a drive will fail. SMARTReporter checks hardware-level issues, not filesystem health, and is not a replacement for regular backups. Technical support is no longer available. The free edition is supported by showing the developer’s other apps.
