Redis Insight
Redis Ltd. · Graphical Redis developer client for browsing data, running queries, managing search indexes and investigating performance.
About
Redis Insight is Redis's graphical developer client for inspecting, querying and managing Redis databases. It suits application developers and database operators who want to explore keys, test queries and investigate performance. It connects to an existing Redis service; installing this desktop application does not install or provision a Redis server.
Features
- Browse, filter and edit supported Redis keys and values in several display formats.
- Run commands in an autocomplete-enabled CLI or Workbench and visualize supported results.
- Create and query search indexes and reuse saved queries.
- Inspect memory and performance recommendations, slow logs and live command activity.
- Work with supported JSON, streams, vector sets and other data structures.
- Connect to supported self-managed, Redis Cloud or Azure-managed databases.
Available commands and data types depend on the database version, modules, edition and your permissions. Redis Insight 3.8 adds Array support for Redis 8.8; installing the client does not add the Array type to an older Redis server. Vector Sets require a server supporting that Redis 8 feature. Optional AI-assisted features are separate from ordinary local database browsing.
Install and platforms
Download the official macOS DMG and copy Redis Insight.app to Applications, or use brew install --cask redis-insight. This catalog's cask requires macOS 12 or later and offers separate Apple Silicon ARM64 and Intel x64 downloads. Choose the matching binary. The general official desktop support table also lists older macOS versions down to 10.15; that broader table must not override this cask's macOS 12 minimum or guarantee that every current build runs on every listed older system.
Official desktop packages also support Windows and selected Ubuntu and Debian Linux releases. Docker and other hosted deployments are separate installation methods, not components installed by this Mac cask. The catalog declares no separate formula dependency or named package conflict. A reachable Redis database and its connection details are still required; network policy, server configuration and authentication can block access.
Connect and use safely
Enter the database endpoint, port and any required ACL username and password. Configure TLS and the appropriate trusted CA or client certificates when the server requires encrypted connections; a plain connection is not encrypted merely because the client is a GUI. Supported SSH-tunnel workflows require authorized SSH credentials and a reachable jump host. Cloud autodiscovery or Azure Entra ID features require the relevant provider account and permissions.
Use a least-privileged database user for the intended workflow. Editing values, bulk deletion, index changes, publishing messages and Workbench commands can modify production data. Profiling can expose live commands and consume server resources. Review command previews, target database and environment before acting, and keep database backups independent of the client.
Version 3.6 introduces Production, Development and Unspecified connection classifications. Production mode requires type-to-confirm for selected high-risk flows and disables command execution or bulk import in tutorials. These safeguards help review operations but are not a database authorization boundary or a guarantee against every destructive command. Non-production confirmation settings can reduce prompts, so use environment labels accurately.
Privacy, accounts and cost
Database connections and command history can contain sensitive information. Protect local application data, exported connection files, logs and diagnostic reports. The official configuration documentation says passwords and Workbench history are stored locally; its RI_ENCRYPTION_KEY setting is specifically for Docker and must not be presented as a universal desktop encryption switch.
The project README describes optional, anonymized telemetry. Review its consent settings and current privacy documentation. Redis Copilot and cloud-connected features should be evaluated separately before sending private data or prompts; a desktop interface is not a promise that every optional feature operates offline.
Redis Insight is a free download. A Redis Cloud account is not inherently required to connect manually to your own authorized database; Cloud discovery, hosted databases and optional services have separate sign-in requirements and possible charges. Client installation does not include a paid Redis Cloud or Redis Software subscription.
The reviewed 3.8.0 source is licensed under Server Side Public License version 1 (SSPL). This is distinct from historical Redis Insight license terms and from Redis server licensing. Do not label the project MIT, Apache or unrestricted merely because its source is public; review the actual license for redistribution or service deployment.
The official version-pinned macOS ARM64 3.8.0 DMG is 134,309,487 bytes according to HTTP HEAD. Installation, caches and database-related local files need additional space.
