About

QDirStat is a graphical macOS application for exploring how disk space is used and identifying files or folders you may want to remove. It presents directory and file sizes in both a conventional tree and a colored treemap, where larger items occupy larger rectangles. Selecting a treemap item shows its location in the directory tree; files can be moved to the trash from the app.

  • Compare folder and file sizes in a hierarchical tree view.
  • Spot large items visually in a colored treemap.
  • Use file-type colors to distinguish categories such as images and videos.
  • Move selected files to the trash from the interface.

Install with brew install --cask qdirstat. The cask installs QDirStat.app in Applications and requires macOS 13 or later. macOS may request access to user folders and may prompt for access again when scanning system directories. Full Disk Access can be enabled in System Settings under Privacy & Security if you want to scan more broadly with fewer interruptions.
