About

Power Monitor is a native macOS application for viewing reports about a Mac’s energy consumption. It also estimates the device’s carbon footprint based on location. Power use is sampled every five seconds, and the app retains maximum readings from the previous 24 hours.

  • Reports power adapter and battery status.
  • Measures and visualizes Mac energy consumption; wattage is estimated rather than measured exactly on the Mac, using external power-meter tests as a reference.
  • Presents a location-based carbon-footprint estimate.
  • Records readings every five seconds and keeps maximum values for the last 24 hours.

To install, use brew install --cask power-monitor. The Homebrew cask requires macOS 13 or later. After installation, open Power Monitor on your Mac to view its reports. The project documents support for macOS 13, 14, 15, 26, and 27. On macOS 27, the alternative electricity tariff schedule may not display correctly.

Uninstall Power Monitor and optional data cleanup

Uninstall command
brew uninstall --cask power-monitor

A regular uninstall removes the app and keeps its settings and caches.

Uninstalling also removes

Background services (launchctl)
corp.sap.PowerMonitorDaemon
Power
Installer receipts (pkgutil)
corp.sap.PowerMonitor.pkg

Deep clean (optional)

Uninstall command
brew uninstall --zap --cask power-monitor

--zap also deletes the settings, caches and other files listed in the Homebrew definition. They can include data shared with other apps and cannot be restored, and it does not guarantee that nothing is left. Back up any data you need first. To keep settings and caches, leave out --zap.
