PlugData is Audio Production software for Mac.

About

PlugData is a visual patching environment for building and running audio systems. This Homebrew cask installs the nightly macOS package; it is distinct from the regular plugdata cask and conflicts with it.

  • Create patches by placing visual objects on a canvas and connecting them.
  • Based on Pure Data and supports its standard .pd patch format; the official site says patches can be opened in both PlugData and Pure Data.
  • The official product overview describes a curated set of objects, including ELSE, Cyclone, and Gem, and lists standalone and plugin use among the product’s formats.
  • The official site also describes Heavy/hvcc integration for exporting C/C++ code and audio plugins; this cask installs the macOS package, not a separate toolchain.

Install with brew install --cask plugdata@nightly. The cask requires macOS. After installation, open PlugData and create or open a patch. Select this nightly build rather than the regular cask when that is the intended variant.

Install and uninstall

Homebrew runs the plugdata-macOS-Universal.pkg installer, which asks for an administrator password.

Install without Homebrew

Download the same file Homebrew uses: plugdata-nightly.s3.amazonaws.com/plugdata-macOS-Universal.pkg

Uninstall command
$ brew uninstall --cask \      plugdata@nightly

A regular uninstall removes the app and keeps its settings and caches.

Deep clean (optional)
$ brew uninstall --zap --cask \      plugdata@nightly

--zap also deletes the settings, caches and other files listed in the Homebrew definition. They can include data shared with other apps and cannot be restored, and it does not guarantee that nothing is left.See which files are removed
