About

Philips Hue Sync is the macOS desktop app for synchronizing compatible Philips Hue lighting with content on your computer screen. Philips describes the desktop app as analyzing screen content and turning it into lighting effects for the room. This is the desktop app, not a Hue HDMI sync box.

  • Choose an Entertainment area set up in the Philips Hue mobile app to specify the arrangement of lights in your room.
  • Start light synchronization from the desktop app after selecting that area.
  • The official setup guidance calls for a Hue Bridge and color-capable Hue lights; the Bridge connects to the router.
  • The desktop app can synchronize lighting with games and other on-screen content.

To install on macOS, run brew install --cask philips-hue-sync, then open the app and select a configured Entertainment area to start syncing. Set up the Hue lighting system and Entertainment area in the Philips Hue mobile app first. The desktop synchronization method works with PC content; the separate Play HDMI sync box is a different product and is not installed by this cask.
