About

OpenRA (playtest) is a playtest build of the real-time strategy game engine for Westwood games. The macOS package installs three separate applications: OpenRA - Dune 2000, OpenRA - Red Alert, and OpenRA - Tiberian Dawn.

This playtest adds random map generators for all three games. Generated maps can be used in Skirmish and Multiplayer, with settings for biome, player count, symmetry, and resources. The update also includes Dune 2000 gameplay and visual changes, campaign difficulty adjustments, and a balance overhaul for Skirmish and Multiplayer. Other changes include timed autosaves for missions and Skirmish, a new mission each for Red Alert and Tiberian Dawn, and improvements to the map editor and its tools.

To install the playtest on macOS with Homebrew, run brew install --cask openra@playtest. The cask conflicts with the separate openra cask, so both cannot be installed together through these casks. The installation provides the three named game applications; it does not install the separate Tiberian Dawn HD mod described on the project website.

For details about the playtest and its changes, see OpenRA. For the macOS package definition, see the Homebrew cask.
