Open Video Downloader
jely2002 and contributors · Cross-platform yt-dlp desktop interface for downloading videos, audio, playlists and subtitles, with quality controls and a managed download queue.
Open Video Downloader is a Audio & Video app for Mac.
About
Open Video Downloader is a cross-platform desktop application that provides a graphical interface around yt-dlp. It downloads videos, audio, subtitles and metadata from supported websites, including but not limited to YouTube, without requiring users to work directly in a terminal.
The official documentation describes video or audio-only downloads, resolution and frame-rate selection, MP4 or MKV output, playlist downloads, configurable destinations and filename templates. A managed queue balances multiple downloads, while progress and errors are displayed in the interface. Authentication options include browser cookie files, basic authentication and video passwords.
The app supports Windows, macOS and Linux, offers light and dark themes, shortcuts and notifications, and can update both itself and yt-dlp. Its current architecture uses Vue 3 on the frontend and a Rust backend powered by Tauri, rather than the older Electron architecture named by the original Homebrew description.
For macOS, upstream supplies separate Intel x64 and Apple-silicon aarch64 disk images. The recorded Homebrew 3.2.1 Apple-silicon artifact is the aarch64 DMG. The project is distributed under AGPL-3.0; users remain responsible for complying with applicable laws, copyright and platform terms when downloading media.
