About

MQTTX is a cross-platform MQTT client from EMQ for testing and exploring MQTT brokers. Its desktop application uses a chat-like interface to organize connections and messages, and supports MQTT 5.0. This macOS cask installs the desktop client, not an MQTT broker or the separately distributed CLI.

Connections and messaging

Create multiple simultaneous client connections and test connection, publishing and subscription behavior. The official project supports MQTT over TCP, TLS and WebSocket and formats message payloads for easier inspection. These capabilities help developers debug IoT messaging and reproduce communication scenarios against an existing broker.

Getting started

Install using brew install --cask mqttx. Prepare a broker, click the plus button in the connection sidebar, fill in connection details, and choose Connect. Once connected, use the publish and subscription controls to test messages. The official README lists EMQ's public broker for testing, but use a private broker for sensitive data and configure the required authentication and TLS settings.

Desktop and related tools

MQTTX runs on macOS, Linux and Windows. The project also distributes separate CLI and Web Docker products; those are not installed by this desktop cask. MQTTX is built with Electron, Vue, TypeScript, SQLite and MQTT.js and is licensed under Apache-2.0. Its public source repository provides development instructions separately from end-user installation.

Recorded macOS package

Homebrew records version 1.13.1 with an Apple-silicon arm64 DMG. The download size attached to this listing is measured from that exact artifact's Content-Length. See the version-specific editorial notes for upstream changes rather than assuming every feature on the current project website is available in older builds.
