About

JupyterLab App is the macOS desktop edition of JupyterLab, packaged as a graphical application. It provides a desktop way to work with Jupyter notebooks and organize JupyterLab sessions around local working directories.

  • Start a notebook or session, open files and folders, or resume a recent session. Each window is associated with a session, and saved sessions can be restored with their configuration.
  • Open .ipynb files by double-clicking them, or launch the app with jlab and a file or directory path. The opened file’s parent directory or selected working directory becomes the file browser’s root.
  • Connect to an existing local or remote JupyterLab server. Locally running servers can be detected and shown in the connection dialog.
  • Set a Python environment and interface layout for projects; launch with a custom Python executable using --python-path.
  • Supports prebuilt JupyterLab extensions; source extensions that require rebuilding are not supported.

Install with Homebrew Cask:

brew install --cask jupyterlab-app

The supplied cask requires macOS 12 or later. After installation, open JupyterLab App from Applications. The jlab command is also available for launching files or directories.
