About

IntelliJ IDEA Community Edition provides Java and Kotlin development tools in an integrated editor. Work with project files, code navigation, inspections, refactoring, build systems, debugging and version control. This catalog entry is the separate 2025.2 Community Edition distribution, not the newer unified IntelliJ IDEA product described by the current marketing homepage.

Community Edition scope

The version-specific 2025.2 documentation identifies Community Edition as free and open-source under Apache 2.0. Commercial Ultimate includes additional web and enterprise tooling. Do not assume that Spring, database, HTTP-client, Docker or paid AI functionality shown in general IntelliJ marketing is bundled in this Community artifact. Installed third-party plugins and hosted services have their own compatibility, licenses and access requirements.

Requirements and Mac installation

The 2025.2 installation guide specifies macOS 12.0 or later, 2 GB of free RAM, 3.5 GB of disk space and a 1024×768 display as minima. It recommends 8 GB of total RAM, a multi-core processor, an SSD with at least 5 GB free, and a 1920×1080 display. Larger projects and concurrent build processes can require more resources.

The exact 2025.2.5 Apple Silicon DMG is 1260894985 bytes, independently matched between the official product API and download-server headers. Intel Macs have a separate download. JetBrains Runtime is included for running the IDE; developing Java applications requires an appropriate standalone JDK. Select the right JDK and build-tool versions for the project rather than assuming the bundled runtime is its development target.

Project execution and access

Opening a project can invoke build scripts, plugins and configured tools. Inspect unfamiliar repositories before allowing them to run. Source files, caches, logs and settings can contain sensitive information. Review the publisher's data-collection settings, plugin permissions and any remote service configuration before sending code or diagnostics outside the Mac. A local Community IDE does not guarantee that all optional integrations remain local.

Release evidence and media

The current compound catalog version 2025.2.5,252.28238.7 and plain 2025.2.5 history record refer to the same base version. Release notes are attached once to each of 2025.2.5, 2025.2.4 and 2025.2.3. Selected fixes come from exact official platform release records and emphasize shared Java, editor and version-control components; Ultimate-specific highlights are excluded.
