GridCraft
ArtCraft · Open-source Rust spreadsheet editor with XLSX, formulas, charts, PivotTables and optional CLI/MCP automation.
About
GridCraft is ArtCraft’s independent, clean-room spreadsheet editor, written in Rust with an Excel-style ribbon. It uses XLSX as its native workbook format and also supports CSV and TSV. The official documentation describes 500+ worksheet functions, dynamic arrays, LET/LAMBDA, tables, sorting and filtering, conditional formatting, charts, sparklines, PivotTables, and PDF export/printing. Optional CLI and MCP interfaces automate workbook operations; the cask installs the desktop app, not the separate CLI archive.
Installation and first use
On macOS with Homebrew installed:
brew install --cask gridcraft
open -a GridCraft
Alternatively, download the official universal DMG, open it and copy GridCraft.app to Applications. The universal build supports Apple silicon and Intel. Start with File → New → Sample, or open an existing XLSX workbook. Homebrew currently records 0.3.0; upstream already offers 0.4.0. The command installs the version currently in Homebrew, not a pinned version.
Requirements and limitations
The cask declares no additional dependencies or explicit minimum macOS version; that is not a guarantee of compatibility with every macOS release. No Rust toolchain is needed for the prebuilt app. The project is pre-alpha: keep backups and test important XLSX round-trips rather than assuming full Excel fidelity. Upstream also supplies Windows, Linux, FreeBSD and WebAssembly builds. Source builds need Rust/Cargo; the documented desktop command is cargo run --release -p gridcraft. Web builds additionally need Trunk and the wasm32-unknown-unknown target. Licensed under MIT or Apache-2.0; independent of Microsoft.
