GitHub Desktop is a Developer Tools app for Mac. It needs macOS 13 or later.

About

GitHub Desktop is the beta edition of GitHub’s desktop client for working with GitHub repositories. It offers a visual way to handle parts of a Git workflow, for both people new to Git and experienced users.

  • Review code changes by comparing versions with diff views.
  • Use drag and drop to cherry-pick commits between branches, combine commits, or reorder them in branch history.
  • Stash changes you are not ready to commit, then continue working on them later.
  • Adjust commit messages, include further changes, or revert to an earlier state.

Install this beta cask with brew install --cask github@beta. It installs GitHub Desktop.app and provides a github command-line executable. This cask requires macOS 13 or later and provides builds for Apple silicon and Intel Macs. It conflicts with the github cask, so both cannot be installed together through Homebrew.

This is the beta channel, intended for trying features and fixes before their release in the regular version; it is not the standard github cask.

Uninstall command
$ brew uninstall --cask \      github@beta

A regular uninstall removes the app and keeps its settings and caches.

Deep clean (optional)
$ brew uninstall --zap --cask \      github@beta

--zap also deletes the settings, caches and other files listed in the Homebrew definition. They can include data shared with other apps and cannot be restored, and it does not guarantee that nothing is left.See which files are removed
