Ghostty tip
Mitchell Hashimoto and Ghostty contributors · The rolling development build of Ghostty, a native GPU-accelerated terminal for testing changes before tagged stable releases.
About
Ghostty tip is the rolling development build of Ghostty, a free terminal emulator with GPU-accelerated rendering and native macOS and GTK Linux interfaces. It is intended for developers and testers who need changes from the main development branch and accept a less predictable build than a tagged stable release.
Terminal features
Use tabs and split panes, configurable fonts and themes, shell integration, hyperlinks and supported terminal graphics protocols. Ghostty's macOS interface includes a command palette and Quick Terminal workflows. The shell and command-line programs you launch keep their own requirements, permissions and network behavior; Ghostty does not install those programs for you.
Installation and compatibility
Download the everyday-use Ghostty.dmg from the official tip distribution or install brew install --cask ghostty@tip. The cask requires macOS 13 Ventura or later and conflicts with the stable ghostty cask, so choose one channel. The official tip release says its Mac builds are universal binaries for Apple silicon and Intel. Debug-fast and debug-slow downloads are debugging builds rather than the recommended everyday installer. Zig is a source-build dependency, not a prerequisite for running the distributed Mac application. Linux packaging differs from this macOS cask.
The current catalog records build 18090 with source commit b699ea79f4b881421b4b3055abc16a0957d76beb. Its exact official commit-specific DMG is 33,865,682 bytes, verified by the download server. A rolling tip release can change while retaining its public tag, so the newest tip page is not evidence that an older catalog build contains a particular change.
Accounts, network and license
Local terminal use does not require a Ghostty service account or subscription. The project uses the MIT license. Downloading builds, connecting over SSH and running networked commands require connectivity; remote services can require their own credentials and charges. Shell commands execute with your user privileges and can modify or remove files. Review pasted commands and remote connection details and keep backups before running destructive work.
Development-channel cautions
The publisher explicitly identifies tip as nightly, built from main after passing tests, and recommends tagged releases. Updates can change configuration, rendering or terminal behavior. Avoid treating automated tests as a guarantee that a nightly build is suitable for your critical workflow. The inspected sources do not establish a blanket Accessibility or Full Disk Access requirement; grant protected-resource access only for your intended commands. The official screenshot is a Ghostty 1.2 macOS example and does not claim to depict build 18090.
Version-history gap: the checked official rolling release provides no exact change list for catalog builds 18090, 18079 and 18075. Their build identities are retained, but stable-release notes are not substituted for nightly changes.
