FTDI VCP Driver
A macOS driver for FTDI devices that provides Virtual COM port connectivity; the Homebrew cask is deprecated.
About
FTDI VCP Driver is a macOS driver package for FTDI devices. Its stated purpose is to provide Virtual COM port support. After installation and a required reboot, a connected device should appear under /dev, commonly with a name such as /dev/tty.usbserial-XXXXXXXX; the identifier varies with the device serial number.
- The cask installs the FTDI installer application in
/Applicationsand launches it as a manual installer. - A reboot is required for the installation to take effect.
- After rebooting, reconnect the FTDI device to have it appear in
/dev. - To uninstall the driver, use the graphical interface to move
/Applications/FTDIUSBSerialDextInstaller.appto the Trash; deleting the listed support files alone does not remove the system extension.
The Homebrew cask is deprecated because its download was reported as unreachable. The cask token is ftdi-vcp-driver; the installation command is brew install --cask ftdi-vcp-driver, but the deprecated status means this should not be taken as a claim that the download is currently available.

Caveats
Once you've rebooted, you can (re)connect your FTDI device and it will show up in /dev, usually like this: /dev/tty.usbserial-XXXXXXXX where XXXXXXXX is a random ID, based on the serial number. To uninstall the driver, you must use the GUI to move the application from /Applications/FTDIUSBSerialDextInstaller.app to Trash, otherwise the system extension will not be removed. You must reboot for the installation of ftdi-vcp-driver to take effect.
