Noto Sans CJK

Noto Sans CJK is a multilingual sans-serif typeface collection distributed by the Noto project. It supplies region-appropriate glyph forms for Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese in Taiwan and Traditional Chinese in Hong Kong. This Homebrew package installs fonts, not a standalone graphical application.

What this package installs

The recorded 2.004 cask downloads the static Super OTC archive and installs NotoSansCJK.ttc into the user's Library/Fonts directory. The official download guide describes this single resource as containing 45 fonts: all five language variants and seven weights, with half-width Mono variants for Regular and Bold. The archive is architecture-independent; it is not an Apple-silicon executable.

Language forms and typography

Choose the font for the intended language to select appropriate glyph shapes. Applications that support language tagging and the OpenType locl substitution feature can also choose localized forms from tagged text. The official guide lists horizontal and vertical forms and proportional kana in fonts supporting Japanese. Do not assume every application exposes all OpenType features.

Formats and licensing

Upstream separately offers variable fonts, language-specific OTFs and region-specific subsets. Those alternatives are not the static Super OTC installed by this exact cask. Noto Sans CJK is licensed under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. The official Super OTC guide states macOS 10.8 or later for this format.

Version and visual assets

The official 2.004 release notes are dated April 28, 2021; the GitHub release was published later to improve download organization. Only one backend-recorded version is available. The official repository contains no raster screenshot or application icon, and a font collection has no standalone app interface; no fabricated visual assets are attached.
