About

Last Resort High-Efficiency is a special-purpose fallback font, not an application. When another font cannot display a character, it can show a representative glyph that helps identify the character’s Unicode block or indicate that it is unassigned, a noncharacter, or in an unassigned Private Use Area.

  • Its block symbols use a shared square frame; at large sizes, the frame includes a form of the block name and code-point range.
  • The font uses the OpenType cmap Format 13 many-to-one mapping, which is more efficient for this kind of font but may not be supported in some environments, including most Windows and Adobe apps.
  • This Homebrew cask installs only LastResortHE-Regular.ttf; it does not install the separate Last Resort font variant.
  • The font provides indicative missing-character symbols, not the original glyphs for characters absent from other fonts.

Install with brew install --cask font-last-resort-high-efficiency. Then select Last Resort High-Efficiency as a fallback font in a compatible system or application. Because Format 13 support varies, check that the environment you use supports this mapping format.
