About

IPAmjMincho is a Japanese Mincho typeface intended for work where small differences between character forms matter, such as writing personal names. Making full use of those distinctions requires an application that supports the font’s character handling; the publisher recommends IPAex fonts for ordinary document writing.

  • The font implements IVS according to the IVD 2017-12-12 Moji_Joho collection, allowing supported character forms to be selected with variation sequences.
  • Its file stores MJ character glyphs, and the font’s post table includes corresponding MJ character-form names.
  • The font includes glyph additions such as voiced and semi-voiced historical kana forms, but display can depend on the application and environment.
  • The publisher notes that support for characters beyond the 16-bit UCS range and for IVS varies across devices and software; check the specific setup when those characters are needed.

Install with brew install --cask font-ipamjmincho. The cask installs ipamjm.ttf. After installation, select IPAmjMincho in a compatible application that supports the characters and variation sequences you need. This installs a font, not an application.

Use is subject to the IPA Font License Agreement. The publisher permits commercial and non-commercial use when users agree to the license terms.
