EB Garamond
Georg Duffner · A Garamond typeface digitization based on the 1592 Egenolff-Berner specimen, with regular, italic, small-caps, and initials font files.
About
EB Garamond is a typeface project based on the Garamond designs shown in the 1592 Egenolff-Berner specimen. This Homebrew cask installs a specific set of OpenType fonts, rather than a complete set of every font described by the project.
The installed files include regular and italic styles for 8pt and 12pt design sizes, small-caps variants, and initials fonts. The project describes its initials as drawing on those in a 16th-century French Bible. The included files are EBGaramond08-Regular.otf, EBGaramond08-Italic.otf, EBGaramond12-Regular.otf, EBGaramond12-Italic.otf, EBGaramond12-AllSC.otf, EBGaramondSC08-Regular.otf, EBGaramondSC12-Regular.otf, EBGaramond-Initials.otf, EBGaramond-InitialsF1.otf, and EBGaramond-InitialsF2.otf. The project identifies the F1 and F2 initials files as the ornament background and letter foreground, respectively.
Install the fonts with brew install --cask font-eb-garamond. After installation, select the desired EB Garamond font in an application that supports installed fonts, such as a word processor or design application; installing this cask does not install an application. The project describes the fonts as a work in progress and notes that quality varies. Its broader goals for script coverage and styles should not be taken as a guarantee that this cask’s particular font files provide them.
