Elephas is a Writing & Notes app for Mac. It needs macOS 13 or later.

About

Elephas is a Mac app for working with your own documents and writing in other apps. This Homebrew cask installs the beta build. Elephas describes a local-first approach: your documents are indexed on your Mac, and sensitive information can be detected and redacted before content is sent to a cloud AI model.

  • Work with personal documents: Create focused workspaces called Super Brains from documents and notes, then search, summarize, or ask questions grounded in your files. The site lists formats and sources including PDFs, Word, Excel, Apple Notes, Notion, Obsidian, Zoom transcripts, and Markdown.
  • Choose where AI runs: Use offline mode with a local model, built-in cloud AI, or your own API key. Local models are optional for cloud use.
  • Write across Mac apps: Super Command can summarize, rewrite, translate, fix grammar, and run custom commands called Snippets from other apps using a keyboard shortcut.
  • Redact sensitive information: Elephas says it detects and redacts sensitive data on-device before cloud requests.

Install with brew install --cask 'elephas@beta'. Requires macOS 13 or later. This cask conflicts with the separate elephas cask, so they cannot be installed together. The cask installs Elephas.app in /Applications.

Install and uninstall

Homebrew installs the app in your Applications folder.

Install without Homebrew

Download the same file Homebrew uses: assets.elephas.app/Elephas_beta.dmg

Uninstall command
$ brew uninstall --cask \elephas@beta

A regular uninstall removes the app and keeps its settings and caches.

Deep clean (optional)
$ brew uninstall --zap --cask \elephas@beta

--zap also deletes the settings, caches and other files listed in the Homebrew definition. They can include data shared with other apps and cannot be restored, and it does not guarantee that nothing is left.See which files are removed
