About

Draw Things is an AI-assisted image and video creation application with local model execution on supported Apple devices and optional Cloud Compute. It suits artists, designers and AI enthusiasts who want direct control over models, prompts and editing workflows. The Mac application is separate from the project's command-line or gRPC server tools.

Features

  • Generate images from prompts or existing images with supported diffusion models.
  • Edit with inpainting, outpainting, masks and an infinite canvas.
  • Use supported ControlNet, pose and conditioning workflows.
  • Import compatible models and LoRAs, and train supported LoRAs locally.
  • Create video with supported models and inspect generation history.
  • Use optional managed Cloud Compute when local hardware is insufficient.

Model support varies by app version and the selected model family. Model weights are additional downloads and can occupy several gigabytes; the application ZIP does not include every available model. Memory, resolution, video length, precision and hardware determine whether a workload fits and how long it takes. Support for a model does not guarantee that the largest configuration runs on every Mac.

Install, hardware and platforms

Download the official Mac ZIP and copy Draw Things.app to Applications, or use brew install --cask draw-things. The catalog cask requires macOS 12 or later. The publisher specifically optimizes local inference for Apple Silicon and documents different capabilities across chip generations. Its release history also explicitly references Intel Macs, including disabling high-quality preview there; feature parity between Intel and Apple Silicon is not implied. Read-only inspection of the official 26.0924.0-4311758c ZIP confirms that the DrawThings executable contains both x86_64 and arm64 Mach-O slices.

The application is also available for supported iPhones and iPads through the App Store. Their system requirements are separate: the checked general Apple lookup reports iOS 15.4, which is not the Mac cask minimum. Community server builds for other environments do not establish a Windows or Linux GUI release of this Mac application.

The cask declares no separate formula dependency or named package conflict. Local use still requires compatible downloaded models, adequate disk space and available memory. Read the selected model's requirements before importing it. Grant file or photo access only for the imports, exports and storage locations you choose; no general administrator, Full Disk Access or Accessibility requirement is asserted for ordinary generation.

Local and cloud use

Local generation can work without a Draw Things account or subscription once the required models are downloaded. The publisher says local prompts and creations stay on the device. Model downloads, updates, optional cloud generation and account features use the network; do not present the entire application as always offline.

Cloud Compute requires sign-in and sends the material needed for the selected cloud workflow to managed services. The privacy policy specifically describes optional account identifiers, subscription transaction information and uploaded LoRA storage. It permits local use without sign-in and says uploaded LoRAs can be removed. Check current service terms before sending confidential images, prompts or custom models. Do not treat a cloud privacy option as a promise that nothing leaves the device.

Use imported models and scripts only from sources you trust. Models, training data and outputs have their own license and usage restrictions; free local generation does not automatically grant commercial rights to every downloaded model or generated image. Keep independent copies of source images and project data before replacing files or removing local model storage.

Cost and license

The official pricing page offers free local creation, a free account tier with managed cloud access, and paid Draw Things+ with increased compute limits and additional cloud features. Boost and enterprise arrangements can have separate charges or terms. Free cloud access is subject to service limits, not an unlimited entitlement. Verify current pricing and Apple purchase terms before subscribing.

The downloadable application and its public source components should not be conflated. The official community repository states that public-facing inference, sampler and training code is GPL version 3, while the complete app is maintained in a private monorepository. The App Store listing links Apple's standard EULA. Consult the relevant application, source-component and model licenses rather than labeling the entire application MIT or assuming all app code is publicly available.

The official 26.0924.0-4311758c Mac ZIP is 230,791,167 bytes according to HTTP HEAD. Installed application data and model weights need additional space.
