DisplayLink Manager
Synaptics Incorporated · Connect compatible DisplayLink USB docks, adapters and monitors to a Mac, with menu-bar status, display setup and driver update notifications.
About
DisplayLink Manager provides the software connection between a Mac and compatible DisplayLink USB docks, adapters and monitors. It is intended for users adding external displays through DisplayLink hardware, rather than as a general driver for every USB-C or Thunderbolt dock.
Features
- Enable supported DisplayLink-connected extended or mirrored displays.
- Inspect connection status and access configuration through a menu-bar application.
- Start automatically after login when that option is enabled.
- Access publisher support and troubleshooting information.
- Receive update notifications in the 17.0 release.
Compatibility and setup
The official 17.0 release supports macOS Sonoma 14, Sequoia 15, Tahoe 26 and Golden Gate 27. Supported DisplayLink chip families are listed in its release notes. Your dock or adapter must contain compatible DisplayLink hardware; supported display modes also depend on its connections and monitors. Older Mac systems require a compatible older driver rather than assuming the newest package supports them.
macOS requires Screen Recording permission for the software to access pixels used to drive the attached displays. The publisher explains that this permission enables display transport and that DisplayLink Manager does not store or record screen content. Apple Silicon MacBooks may also require you to allow the connected USB peripheral. Follow the official installation guide and your organization's device policy.
Limits to consider
Protected video content can be unavailable while DisplayLink screens are connected. Some HiDPI resolutions may be unavailable on Apple Silicon, and FileVault affects display availability at the pre-login screen. Read the current release's known issues before relying on the setup for a specific monitor or workflow.
The publisher provides the driver download; compatible hardware is a separate purchase. Review the installer license and support documentation. Keep a suitable alternative display connection available when changing display drivers.
