About

DBeaver Community is a free, open-source desktop database tool for developers, SQL programmers, database administrators and analysts. It brings database connections, SQL editing and data exploration into one workspace.

Features

  • Connect to supported databases through database-specific drivers and manage multiple connections.
  • Write and execute SQL with completion, formatting, result tabs and query plans where supported by the database.
  • Browse schemas, edit table data and inspect database objects and metadata.
  • View entity relationship diagrams and explore foreign-key relationships.
  • Import, export and transfer data with mappings and transformations.
  • Configure network handlers such as SSH tunnels and optional AI assistance through a configured provider.

Installation and first use

Install brew install --cask dbeaver-community, or download the official macOS DMG and drag DBeaver.app into Applications. Start DBeaver, choose New Database Connection, select the appropriate driver and enter the server address and credentials. Allow the initial driver download when required. Test the connection before saving it, and use an account with only the permissions your work requires. DBeaver does not install or operate your database server for you. Back up important data before running SQL or applying edits.

Requirements and dependencies

The official current download page lists macOS 11 or newer. The current Homebrew cask supports Intel and Apple Silicon and offers architecture-specific DMGs, without an additional formula dependency or a stricter explicit macOS minimum. Current official distributions include OpenJDK 25; a separate Java installation is not required, and the bundled runtime does not replace system Java. Database drivers, network reachability and suitable database credentials remain connection requirements. Driver compatibility and server capabilities differ by database. No fixed RAM or disk-space minimum was confirmed in the retrieved official requirements; download size is not installed space.

Conflicts and installation details

Homebrew declares no named cask conflict. A manual DBeaver.app installation can occupy the same Applications path. The package links the DBeaver executable into Homebrew's bin directory. Do not extract a new archive over an older installation. Workspace and connection settings are stored separately from the application, including in ~/Library/DBeaverData. Optional Homebrew zap cleanup deletes that workspace and related preferences and caches; export connection settings and retain any needed workspace backups first. A driver download failure, firewall restriction or unavailable SSH/database service can prevent connections even when the desktop application starts normally.

Platforms, accounts, costs and license

Community distributions are available for macOS, Windows and Linux, including Intel/x86-64 and ARM builds where listed on the official download page. Windows requires Windows 10 or newer, or Windows Server 2016 or newer; Linux support depends on the selected distribution and desktop environment. This cask installs the macOS application. No official Community mobile build is listed in the retrieved download options.

Community is free and open source under the Apache License 2.0; included components retain their own licenses. A DBeaver commercial subscription is not required for Community. Database accounts, database service fees and optional AI provider authentication and charges are separate. DBeaver PRO products provide additional commercial features and support; do not assume their enterprise authentication or NoSQL capabilities are included in this Community package. Optional AI features do not imply free model access.
