Crest is a Browsers app for Mac. It needs macOS 26 or later.

About

Crest is an open-source browser by Paul Davis. Spaces separate cookies, website data, tabs, history and credentials for work, personal browsing and private sessions. On Mac, Chromium is the default engine; WebKit is available for individual websites and pages. The sidebar organizes pins and folders; Peek previews links and Split View groups two to four pages. Optional iCloud sync carries browsing organization between Apple devices.

Install

The official Crest 0.7 documentation requires an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 26.1 or later; Homebrew currently declares macOS 26 or later. Follow the stricter official requirement. With Homebrew installed, run brew install --cask crest-browser, then open Crest from Applications. Alternatively, download the signed, notarized Apple Silicon DMG from the official GitHub release, open it and move Crest.app to Applications. Built-in updates use Sparkle.

Crest 0.8.1 moves the sound and sharing badge on pinned tabs to the tile’s bottom corner instead of covering the site icon, making the icon easier to click.

Install and uninstall

Homebrew installs the app in your Applications folder.

Install without Homebrew

Download the same file Homebrew uses: github.com/pauljoda/Crest/releases/download/v0.8.1/Installer-Crest-0.8.1-arm64.dmg

SHA-256 only checks that the download is complete; it is not a security certification. See the SHA-256 and download address

Uninstall command
$ brew uninstall --cask \crest-browser

A regular uninstall removes the app and keeps its settings and caches.

Deep clean (optional)
$ brew uninstall --zap --cask \crest-browser

--zap also deletes the settings, caches and other files listed in the Homebrew definition. They can include data shared with other apps and cannot be restored, and it does not guarantee that nothing is left.See which files are removed

How do I completely uninstall Crest on a Mac?
