Claude Status Bar
m1ckc3s · Unofficial macOS menu bar companion showing Claude Code activity, permission requests, elapsed time, and multiple live sessions.
About
Claude Status Bar is a lightweight, MIT-licensed macOS menu bar companion for Claude Code. Its animated icon shows when Claude is thinking or running tools, a yellow dot signals a permission request, and an optional timer displays the elapsed time of the current turn. It has no main window, Dock icon, or usage dashboard.
The menu offers optional status text, timer controls, animation styles and adaptive or orange icon colors. With multiple sessions, it prioritizes a session awaiting permission and lists live sessions in the dropdown. The official documentation supports Claude Code CLI, the Code tab of Claude Code Desktop, and the Claude Code extension in Cursor; it does not track the Chat or Cowork tab of Claude Desktop.
Requirements are macOS 12 or later, Claude Code and Node.js. Install with brew install --cask claude-status-bar, then launch the app once to install hooks. The installer backs up and merges hooks into ~/.claude/settings.json. Thereafter the app opens with Claude Code sessions and exits when no session remains. Its documented network activity is a daily public GitHub/Homebrew update check.
