BlackHole 64ch
Existential Audio · A 64-channel Mac virtual audio loopback driver for routing sound between recording, streaming and production applications.
About
BlackHole 64ch is the 64-channel distribution of the BlackHole macOS audio loopback driver. It routes audio between applications through a virtual Core Audio device, supporting recording, streaming and multi-channel production workflows.
Features
- Provide a virtual audio device with 64 input and output channels.
- Pass audio between applications without additional driver latency.
- Use supported sample rates through the Core Audio system.
- Combine devices in Audio MIDI Setup for supported routing workflows.
- Work with compatible recording applications and digital audio workstations.
Setup and compatibility
The official project supports macOS 10.10 or later and builds for Intel and Apple Silicon. Close running audio applications before installing the package and restart when prompted. The project states that no kernel extension or reduction of system-security settings is necessary. Select the BlackHole device in the sending and receiving apps; microphone permission may be required by the recording app. Multi-output routing may require selecting the built-in output and configuring drift correction.
BlackHole is GPL-3.0 software. The publisher requires a separate license for integration into non-GPL projects; consult its current terms before bundling it into a product. Routing a signal does not automatically play it through speakers, and incorrect routing can create feedback. Keep volume low while testing. The driver routes local audio; the privacy of recordings or network transmission depends on the applications receiving it.
