BetterCmdTab
@rokartur · A beta macOS window switcher that replaces the built-in Cmd+Tab app switcher and offers live window previews.
About
BetterCmdTab is a beta macOS window switcher designed as a replacement for the built-in Cmd+Tab app switcher. It lets you switch between individual windows, rather than only between apps, and displays live previews.
The official feature overview describes several ways to browse and manage windows:
- Choose a list, grid, or preview-based layout, and search for or launch apps.
- Browse windows across Spaces and displays, with browser-tab drill-in and indicators for app badges and playing audio.
- Use window actions such as close, minimize, hide, or quit; the overview also lists window tiling and moving windows to another display.
- Configure the switcher through a JSON file that the official site says updates live when saved.
This is the beta cask variant. It requires macOS 13 or later and conflicts with the regular bettercmdtab cask, so the two variants cannot be installed together. The official site also identifies the app as free and open source.
Install with Homebrew using brew install --cask bettercmdtab@beta. Then open BetterCmdTab from Applications. For details, see the official website and Homebrew cask.
