About
Alfred is a macOS productivity application for launching apps and finding files from the keyboard. This Homebrew package installs the Alfred 4 app; Alfred’s current website also describes newer releases, so their details should not be assumed to apply to this variant.
- Search for and launch apps, find files, browse results, and preview files with Quick Look.
- Use web searches, calculations, spelling and definition lookup, and macOS system commands from Alfred.
- Search clipboard history for previously copied text, images, and files, and expand saved snippets from abbreviations.
- Create or import workflows to connect actions; the official site identifies workflows and some other features as requiring the paid Powerpack.
Install with brew install --cask alfred@4, then open Alfred 4 from Applications and configure how you want to search and launch items. The cask installs Alfred 4.app in /Applications. Alfred is a Mac application and requires macOS. The official website describes the core app as free to download and use, while identifying Powerpack features separately.
