This Mac cask installs TigerVNC Viewer: a client for viewing and interacting with a desktop provided by a separately configured VNC server. It is suitable for accessing your own remote machines and providing authorized support. Installing it does not turn this Mac into a TigerVNC server.

## Main features
- Connect to compatible VNC servers and view their remote graphical desktops.
- Send keyboard and pointer input, or choose view-only operation.
- Use supported clipboard exchange, fullscreen and display-scaling controls.
- Select encoding and image/compression settings for the connection.
- Request shared sessions or remote-desktop resizing when the server supports them.
- Negotiate supported authentication and security types, including TLS and X.509 variants.

Available behavior depends on both the viewer and the remote server. A remote desktop is not a file-transfer or audio service by default, and protocol compatibility does not imply every server-specific feature is supported.

## Install and connect
Install with `brew install --cask tigervnc`, or download the official Mac DMG and copy TigerVNC.app into Applications. Open the viewer, enter the authorized server hostname/address and display number, then connect and provide the credentials required by that server. For example, `host:1` selects VNC display 1; an explicit port uses the `host::port` form. The other computer must already run a reachable VNC server with appropriate permissions and authentication.

Configure the remote server and connection path according to the network and security requirements. TigerVNC supports several security schemes, but a connection is not automatically guaranteed to use authenticated encryption: the negotiated scheme matters, and the viewer can also support unencrypted types. Choose compatible TLS/X.509 settings and check certificates where applicable, or use an appropriate SSH tunnel/private network. A VNC password alone is not equivalent to an encrypted transport. Remote macOS screen-control permissions belong to the server on that Mac, not automatically to this viewer installation.

## Requirements, dependencies and platform differences
The official 1.16.2 Mac application has a universal executable containing Intel x86-64 and Apple Silicon ARM64 code. Inspection of its Mach-O deployment targets shows macOS 10.12 for Intel and macOS 11.0 for ARM64. These binary targets are not a guarantee of testing on every later or older macOS configuration. The current cask does not declare a specific macOS minimum, additional formula dependency or explicit cask conflict.

The verified Mac DMG is 6,845,311 bytes, including for Apple Silicon users. It is one universal download, not separate ARM/Intel assets. Download size is not installed disk use. No universal RAM or installed-space requirement was established; connection bandwidth, desktop size and rendering workload influence resource use.

TigerVNC's Unix/Linux server tools include Xvnc, x0vncserver and w0vncserver, with different virtual-desktop, X11 and Wayland workflows. They are not installed by this Mac viewer cask. Windows and Linux packages are separate distributions with their own requirements and server availability. The upstream README warns that the legacy Windows winvnc server is unmaintained; it must not be treated as equivalent to the current Wayland or Unix server components.

## Accounts, cost and license
TigerVNC is free software distributed under GNU GPL version 2, with some components governed by their own licenses. No TigerVNC cloud account or subscription is required for local viewer use. Login credentials and any hosted-service charges depend on the remote server or network provider.

The 1.16.2 announcement explicitly corrects the earlier 1.16.1 announcement: the intended x0vncserver security fix was omitted from 1.16.1 and is present in 1.16.2. That issue concerns the Unix x0vncserver component rather than the Mac viewer itself; users running that server should follow the upstream update guidance.

The accompanying official repository image shows TigerVNC Viewer on a Linux desktop connecting to a remote macOS Catalina desktop. It is a historical cross-platform example, not a screenshot of the current Mac viewer application.

Sources: [Official project](https://tigervnc.org/), [1.16.2 announcement](https://github.com/TigerVNC/tigervnc/releases/tag/v1.16.2), [1.16.1 announcement](https://github.com/TigerVNC/tigervnc/releases/tag/v1.16.1), [Viewer manual](https://tigervnc.org/doc/vncviewer.html), [Platform components](https://github.com/TigerVNC/tigervnc/blob/v1.16.2/README.rst), [License](https://github.com/TigerVNC/tigervnc/blob/v1.16.2/LICENCE.TXT), [Official downloads](https://sourceforge.net/projects/tigervnc/files/stable/1.16.2/).","Multi-platform VNC client and server","TigerVNC developers and contributors","TigerVNC Viewer","aa0ef07e4ebe4f068cbf1118273459b5b616177cb6abf15a538af018ebfb5933",6845311,"https://downloads.sourceforge.net/tigervnc/TigerVNC-1.16.2.dmg","https://formulae.brew.sh/cask/tigervnc","https://tigervnc.org/","https://cdn.opennavo.com/icons/uploads/eb02a301ce7b/cf1b789f8f36-256.png","brew install --cask tigervnc",{"d30":56,"d365":57,"d90":58},1709,15543,6834,"cask
"## TigerVNC 1.16.2

Includes the x0vncserver security fix accidentally omitted from 1.16.1.

### Security
- Includes the intended x0vncserver screen-access security fix.
- Corrects the omission of that fix from the 1.16.1 release.

Upstream describes this as a second attempt at the x0vncserver security release: 1.16.1 contained the other fixes but omitted the security correction itself. This Mac cask installs TigerVNC Viewer: a client for viewing and interacting with a desktop provided by a separately configured VNC server. It is suitable for accessing your own remote machines and providing authorized support. Installing it does not turn this Mac into a TigerVNC server.

Main features

Connect to compatible VNC servers and view their remote graphical desktops.

Send keyboard and pointer input, or choose view-only operation.

Use supported clipboard exchange, fullscreen and display-scaling controls.

Select encoding and image/compression settings for the connection.

Request shared sessions or remote-desktop resizing when the server supports them.

Negotiate supported authentication and security types, including TLS and X.509 variants.

Available behavior depends on both the viewer and the remote server. A remote desktop is not a file-transfer or audio service by default, and protocol compatibility does not imply every server-specific feature is supported.

Install and connect

Install with
brew install --cask tigervnc
, or download the official Mac DMG and copy TigerVNC.app into Applications. Open the viewer, enter the authorized server hostname/address and display number, then connect and provide the credentials required by that server. For example,
host:1
selects VNC display 1; an explicit port uses the
host::port
form.

Requirements, dependencies and platform differences

Accounts, cost and license
