## About

Junie is the AI coding agent from JetBrains. It works in the terminal, inside JetBrains IDEs, and in GitHub or GitLab pipelines.

**Planning and control**
- Advanced plan mode writes structured requirements, design and delivery stages into `.junie/plans` before Junie touches code, so you can approve or redirect the plan.
- Live prompting lets you change direction while a task runs, and human-in-the-loop checks ask for confirmation before key actions through a dynamic allowlist.
- You can plan on a strong model and implement on a fast one.

**Working while you are away**
- Remote control starts an asynchronous run and shows progress in the CLI and in the web app, which suits migrations and Spring Boot upgrades.
- Agentic debugging starts a real debugger, sets breakpoints, inspects runtime state and steps through code instead of only reading logs.

**Extending it**
- Custom guidelines and Agent Skills carry your team's standards across sessions, with `/commands` shared between the CLI and the IDE over ACP.
- Custom subagents split work into parallel subtasks; MCP integration adds tools, databases and APIs, and the setup includes an MCP configuration assistant.

**Cost and requirements**
Junie Lite is a free model available in every JetBrains account, and AI usage is billed separately. Bring-your-own-key gives provider-rate pricing without markup, and heavier use runs on the JetBrains AI Pro or AI Ultimate subscription. The cask installs the Junie CLI on macOS; Windows and Linux builds are also available from JetBrains.

## Uninstall

- `brew uninstall --cask junie`

A regular uninstall removes the app and keeps its settings and caches.

### Deep clean (optional)

- `brew uninstall --zap --cask junie`

`--zap` also deletes the settings, caches and other files listed in the Homebrew definition. They can include data shared with other apps and cannot be restored, and it does not guarantee that nothing is left. Back up any data you need first. To keep settings and caches, leave out `--zap`.
